- Creation: 2013-01-14
Summary
Dr. Anthony (Tony) Zeiss, president of Central Piedmont Community College, (CPCC), in Charlotte North Carolina from 1992-2016, discusses his association with Chancellor James H. Woodward of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, (UNC Charlotte). He recalls that during his first year as president of CPCC, he would meet Chancellor Woodward for breakfast once a month so they could make sure both institutions were in sync over the provision of educational access and opportunity to the region--particularly in nursing, engineering, and business. Dr. Zeiss also discusses the 2000 North Carolina Higher Education Improvement Bonds, the need at UNC Charlotte and CPCC for new capital construction, the lead up to the bond vote in November of 2000, and the results of that vote. He concludes the interview noting the similarity in design between the two institutions--and especially the use of brick--and recalls an anecdotal story about the Woodward family and his own family during a trip to New Bern, North Carolina.
