Patricia A. Skinner oral history interview, 2013 February 20

Dr. Patricia A. Skinner, President of Gaston College talks about her association with Chancellor James H. Woodward of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She talks about Chancellor Woodward's accomplishments at UNC Charlotte: campus expansion, increased financial support, and the shift in perception of the campus from a commuter school to a traditional university. Dr. Skinner recalls the 2000 North Carolina Higher Education Improvement Bonds and how community colleges partnered with the UNC System to pass the measure. Noting that Charlotte area community colleges feed into UNC Charlotte, she points out how important Chancellor Woodward was in getting the region's community colleges on board. She concludes the interview discussing the first doctoral programs at UNC Charlotte, the deft way Chancellor Woodward approached adding those programs, and where both UNC Charlotte and Gaston College would be today had the 2000 bond measure failed.
