Charles Lynch oral history interview, 2013 January 25

Charles Lynch discusses his career at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, starting as the Director of Housing from 1973-1978; then the Dean of Students from 1978-1987; and finally the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs from 1987-2007. He describes Chancellor James H. Woodward's accomplishments during his tenure at UNC Charlotte; changes in the physical appearance of the campus; academic program growth - particularly the beginning of doctoral programs; and engagement of the university with the local community. Mr. Lynch briefly touches on campus academic planning at UNC Charlotte and the role Student Affairs played in that process. As a member of the Campus Master Planning Task Force, he recalls his experiences in that group and how the needs of Student Affairs played into the overall scope of the master planning process. He concludes the interview talking about the look of the campus today and how it reflects the vision of Chancellor Woodward.
