In this group interview, Vermelle Diamond Ely, Price Davis, Wright Hunter, Calvin Davis, and Naomi Davis share their memories of the Brooklyn neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina, also known as Second Ward. The interviewees discuss Second Ward High School, teachers, and extracurricular activities. Other topics include black-owned churches and businesses in Brooklyn, recreation, jobs held as teenagers, nearby communities including Cherry and Third Ward, and how urban renewal destroyed the Brooklyn community.

Biographical Note
This group interview took place at the Second Ward Alumni House in Charlotte, North Carolina. Vermelle Diamond Ely was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was educated at Second Ward High School and AB Shaw University and was employed as a teacher for thirty years. Price Davis was a 79-year-old man at the time of interview. He was born in Lincolnton, North Carolina in 1924. He graduated from Second Ward High School and was employed as a truck driver. Wright Hunter was a 72-year-old man at the time of interview. He was born in Charlotte, North carolina in 1931. He was educated at Johnson C. Smith University, the University of North Carolina Charlotte, and Temple University and was employed as a college professor. Calvin Davis was born in Taylorsville, North Carolina in 1925. He was educated at Second Ward High School, Johnson C. Smith University, and New York University, and was employed as a teacher and a school administrator. Naomi Davis was a 76-year-old woman at the time of interview. She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1928. She was educated at Johnson C. Smith University and New York University and was employed as a teacher.
