Department of Social Work Records

Identifier: UA0652

Scope and Contents

The Department of Social Work Records contains records from the Department of Social Work and its predecessor, the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work. While the department later became the School of Social Work, that period is not reflected in this collection’s files.

The collection is divided into three series: Program Files, Post-Graduation Surveys, and Thomas S. Research Project.

The Program Files series contains candidacy application materials and progress reports for the Master of Social Work (MSW) program and accreditation self-study reports for both the MSW and the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) programs. Also included is a program objective evaluation plan for both programs. Files range from 1999 to 2008 and are arranged chronologically.

The Post-Graduation Surveys series consists of three survey reports of graduates from the College of Health and Human Services classes of 2001 to 2004. Files are arranged chronologically.

The Thomas S. Research Project series includes a set of monographs from the Longitudinal Study conducted as part of the research project by the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work. Represented are monographs 1 through 22 and 24 through 27 created from 1992 to 2001. Also included is a print-out of the project’s website.

Administrative History

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte first appears in the 1989-1991 university catalog as part of the College of Arts and Sciences. By the 2001-2003 catalog, its name had changed to the Department of Social Work, and by 2003-2005 it had moved to the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). In 2015, the department became the School of Social Work within CHHS, although this period is not reflected in the records of this collection.

Processing Information

This collection consists of two accessions that were initially processed as separate collections. They were merged into this single collection in April 2018 by Olivia Eanes, archives assistant. Physical order was maintained, but files were rearranged into series for the inventory.

There are no folders 13 or 14. These contained print-outs of the 2007-2009 Graduate and Undergraduate catalogs, respectively, which were removed from the collection and recycled. University catalogs are available online.
