Administrative History

The University Transition Opportunities Program (UTOP) began in 1986 to facilitate the underrepresented student's transition from high school to college. UTOP is a Summer Bridge and Academic Year Learning Community for first time in college students that focuses on ensuring a successful transition to college.

In 1995 UTOP became part of the newly formed Office of Minority Academic Services. That office was subsequently known as Academic Initiatives for Mentoring Students (AIMS) (2003-2008) and the Office of Multicultural Academic Services (2008-2018). The office is now known as the Office of Academic Diversity and Inclusion (OADI).
