Biographical / Historical

Dr. Barbara Ann Goodnight was born in Pampa, Texas in 1937. She was educated at Texas Woman's University and Louisiana State University. In 1967, she was hired as a professor of sociology at UNC Charlotte, rising to become chair of the department of Sociology and Anthropolgy in 1972. In 1980, she was promoted to interim and then permanent Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, a role which she held until 1997. As Senior Associate Vice Chancellor, Dr. Goodnight was responsible for overseeing activities related to academic personnel, planning, and budget.
