UNC Charlotte Foundation records
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of records created by the UNC Charlotte Foundation and transferred to University Archives from the Development Office, Business Affairs, and the Chancellor’s Executive Assistant and Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees. Along with correspondence, minutes and accompanying meeting material from both board of directors and committee meetings, presentations, and financial records are files providing a history of and general information about the Foundation. Material related to the 2016 NC Connect Bond Campaign, various scholarship funds and other gifts, and University Research Park are also included.
While some files in this collection predate the Foundation’s name change to the UNC Charlotte Foundation (see Administrative History note), most of the records pertaining to the period pre-1965 can be found in the Charlotte College Foundation Records (UA0142).
This collection is divided into seven series and six single files. The series are as follows: History, Governing Documents, and General Information; General Foundation Meetings; Executive Committee; Nominating Committee; Financial and Gift Records; Scholarships and Awards; Bond Campaign.

Administrative History
The UNC Charlotte Foundation was initially incorporated as the Charlotte Community College Foundation in 1960 after Addison H. Reese proposed that a committee of Charlotte Community College System trustees investigate the “formation of a foundation to provide a permanent vehicle by which individuals and business firms may contribute financial support to the Colleges.” The foundation was established as an independent entity, and an inaugural donation of $2,500 was given by North Carolina National Bank (NCNB). With the transition of Charlotte College to a four-year school and its disassociation with Carver College, the foundation became the Charlotte College Foundation in 1963. Two years later, Charlotte College became part of the University of North Carolina, and the foundation’s name was changed again to the UNC Charlotte Foundation.
This information taken from the “History” file in Box 1 of this collection. See this file for a more detailed history of the foundation.

Processing Information
This collection was processed as individual collections upon receipt from various offices on campus (Development, Business Affairs, and Trustees). These collections were merged into this single collection in December 2017 by Olivia Eanes, archival assistant. File titles were maintained.
There is no Folder 16 in Box 2. When originally processed, Folder 16 was simply a marker directing researchers to the existence of microfilm stored elsewhere. Since the microfilm was already inventoried in another of the collections merged into UA0141, Folder 16 was deleted.
