Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Academic Affairs, Academic Planning and Curriculum Records include materials pertaining to course and curriculum development and academic planning at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, not only for each individual college or support unit but also for divisions and for the university as a whole. These materials include correspondence, working documents, presentations of and responses to drafts of various academic plans, course and curriculum proposals, and library consultations to determine the sufficiency of the library’s collections for a proposed new course. Also included are documents pertaining to long-range planning for the University of North Carolina System.

The collection is divided into the following three series: Academic Plans; Curriculum Proposals and Academic Program Development; and Library Consultations for Course and Curriculum Proposals.

The three Academic Plans that are covered in this collection are the 1996-2001 plan, the 1998-2003 plan, and the 2000-2005 plan. Later Academic Plans can be found online at the Academic Affairs website: https://provost.charlotte.edu/about-academic-affairs/goals-plans

The course and curriculum proposal files date from 1970 to 1995. Course and curriculum proposals post-1995 can be found in the Academic Affairs Faculty Governance Records. Requests to establish new degrees from 2002 to present are available through the Academic Affairs website: https://provost.charlotte.edu/curriculum-catalogs/academic-program-planning-and-authorization Library consultation files date from 1995 to 2016.
