Task Force--World Wide Web--Webz, 1995

 File — Box: 93 [G02.155.04.03], Folder: 1052

Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The Director’s Files largely consist of materials transferred from the senior-most office in the library, variously called Head Librarian (from 1964), Library Director (from 1974), University Librarian, and Dean of Libraries (from 2015). Most of the files date from the period when the office was called Library Director or University Librarian.

Files include material on budgets, accounts, gifts, personnel, academic departments, online integrated library systems, e.g. Aladdin/VTLS, university network, Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET), computer and distance learning equipment, the art collection, outside organizations including the Mircoelectronics Center of North Carolina (MCNC), self-studies, accreditation, grants, development, technology, strategic planning, academic planning, exhibits, and professional activities of the Director. The series also contains annual reports, correspondence, memoranda, policies, procedures, handbooks, photographs of library staff, and photographs and materials from events, such as the 500,000th and one-millionth volume celebrations. Also included are files pertaining to the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program and exploration of a potential Masters of Library Science program at UNC Charlotte.

Files from numerous councils, committees, and task forces are part of this series as well. Committees and task forces cover topics such as academic policy, Aladdin, computing services, curriculum, handicapped services, inventory, Learning Resources Center, Library Council, oral history projects, periodicals, public services, safety, SOLINET, space, staff development, distance learning, racial harassment, weekend services, and more. Files from the Faculty Advisory Library Committee (FALC) and the University Library Advisory Council (ULAC) are also included. Many topics covered in other series, such as Aladdin, SOLINET, the art collection, and staff development, also have materials from a corresponding committee represented in these files.

Other than the MCNC files in Box 9, the Automated Cataloging and Circulation System files in Boxes 9 and 10, the photographs files in Box 32, and the annual reports and self-studies in Box 7, all the files in this series were transferred to the archives from the chief administrator’s office.

Aside from a few general files of correspondence, etc., the files in this series have been arranged into the following eighteen subseries: Annual Reports; Goals, Objectives, and Planning; Budget and Accounts; Policies and Procedures; Computing and Technology; Committees, Councils, and Task Forces; Presentations, Seminars, etc.; Events and Exhibits; Art Collection; Gifts and Development; Grants and Contracts; Faculty and Staff; Personnel Matters; Self-Studies and Accreditation; Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI); Other University Offices and Academic Departments; Outside Organizations; Director’s Alphabetical Subject Files.
