Biographical / Historical
The city of Charlotte, NC was chartered on December 3, 1768 by the colonial government of North Carolina with John Frohock, Abraham Alexander, Thomas Polk, Richard Berry and George Allen named as directors and trustees for the town. Charlotte's charter and its designation as the county seat of Mecklenburg county, which had been created in 1762, allowed the hamlet to construct a courthouse and prison. In 1968 the city celebrated its bicentennial and Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools took an active part in creating slides and posters to celebrate the occasion.
