The Mahlon Adams Papers are is the physical property of the J. Murrey Atkings Library Special Collections, University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Literary rights, including copyright, belong to the authors or their legal heirs and assigns.

Biographical Note

Mahlon Adams was born in Greensboro May 24, 1923. Her family moved to Charlotte in 1967, and she was a founding member of her neighborhood's community organization. As Charlotte grew in the 1980s, Adams became an advocate for more citizen involvement, especially in zoning and land-use issues. She was appointed to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Committee in the 1990s after she'd sought the position for more than a decade. Adams played a large role in the redesign of Freedom Park where there is a pavilion there named in her honor. She passed away March 12, 2012.

Abstract

Mahlon Adams served on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Committee in the 1990s and played a large role in the redesign of Freedom Park where there is a pavilion named in her honor. The bulk of the collection is related to the foundation of the Freedom Park Neighborhood Association.
