Scope and Contents

This collection consists largely of material related to the work of Fire Ant Music. It includes news articles, press releases, promotional material, license agreements and publications. It also includes Herman's Creative Loafing articles and correspondence about the Carolina Music Archive at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Library. Finally, there are CD case labels and the Zen Frisbee CD in its original case.

The FireAnt Music Papers are is the physical property of the J. Murrey Atkings Library Special Collections, University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Literary rights, including copyright, belong to the authors or their legal heirs and assigns.

Biographical / Historical

FireAnt Music - Music that Bites! is the slogan for an independent recording company in Charlotte, NC that distributes ethnic and regional music. Lewis Herman, a librarian in the Charlotte area, is an editor with the company. He also has been the producer for some of the recordings.

Lew Herman, born in the Bronx, NY, has lived in North Carolina since 1973 and in Charlotte since 1978. Creator of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library’s Music Archive, he also started FireAntMusic.com. His music and travel articles have appeared in Creative Loafing and elsewhere. While working at Reference Services at UNCC’s Atkins Library he turned toward acting, working on Hunger Games, their follow-up films plus every season of Stranger Things. He has worked on over 100 projects – movies, tv and ads. He was also a Stand In and Double for Bruce Dern and F. Murray Abraham. He is not to be confused with Herman Lubinsky, a music executive for Savoy Records in the mid-twentieth century, who went by the pseudonym of Lew Herman.
