Biographical Note

Deana Morrow was a faculty member in Social Work at UNC Charlotte from 1998 to December, 2005 until departing for Winthrop University in January, 2006. She served as an associate professsor and the MSW program coordinator in the Department of Social Work.

Morrow created the first (to her knowledge) undergraduate and graduate courses in LGBT Studies to be offered at UNC Charlotte. Her course was first offered in 1999 as SOWK 3090: Gay and Lesbian Issues in Social Work Practice, an undergraduate course. She then began offering the course at the graduate level (SCWK 7090) in 2001 and taught the course for several years.

She worked with colleagues to develop the textbooks Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in Social Work Practice (Morrow, D.F. and Messinger, L., eds. New York: Columbia UP, 2006) and Case Studies on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity in Social Work Practice (Messinger, L. and Morrow, D.F., eds. New York: Columbia UP, 2006).

As of 2013, Morrow continues to reside in Charlotte with her spouse, Frances Tack. Morrow is the chair of the Department of Social Work and works with the Safe Zones Advisory Committee at Winthrop University. Tack is a program chair and advisor to the LGBT student group, Spectrum, at the Piedmont Community College.

Morrow holds the following degrees: PhD, LPC, LCSW, LISW-CP, and ACSW.
