Historical Note
The Plaza-Midwood Neighborhood Housing Services of Charlotte, Inc. operated as a part of the Neighborhood Housing Services of America, a national network of locally funded and operated, autonomous, self help programs with the goal of revitalizing declining inner city neighborhoods. Local programs are established by the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, a non-profit agency that is responsible for identifying areas and renewing applications from local governments, entering into the agreement with the local entity, assisting in recruiting and selection of staff, providing seed money grant, and providing technical assistance to the NHS programs. The Plaza-Midwood NHS operated from 1979 to 1983. The Plaza-Midwood Development Corporation, an organization founded for revitalizing the Plaza-Midwood business district, continues many of the responsibilities of the NHS.
