Biographical / Historical
James Norman Pease, Sr. was born in Columbus, Ga., on November 1, 1885. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology (ca. 1900) and Washington and Lee University (1907). From 1917 to 1919, he served as a major in the U.S. Army, Quartermaster Corps. In 1920, Pease became managing partner of the Charlotte office of Lockwood Greene Company. In 1938, he founded J. N. Pease & Co. (renamed J. N. Pease Associates in 1962) with architect James Stenhouse. From 1942 to 1945, Pease served as colonel in the U.S. Army, 369th Engineers Regiment. Pease retired in 1975 and died in Charlotte on July 17, 1987.
