W.H. and S.E. Jetton papers
Scope and Contents
This collection contains a small assortment of papers primarily from William Howard Jetton (1909-1985) and his sister, Sarah Elizabeth Jetton (1913-2007). In addition, there are also a few items from their parents (William Alexander Jetton and Sarah Grimes Howard Jetton) and grandmothers (Annie Biddle Cobb Howard, and Mary Ann Potts Jetton). As the family has had a well-documented genealogy since its settlement in North Carolina, the Jettons have compiled considerable notes about their family, notes that are now contained in this collection. There is also a series of photographs in this collection, spanning from 1910 to 1997. As William Howard Jetton was a financial officer for a couple of different banks in the Davidson, North Carolina area, he accumulated an assortment of notes and newspaper articles about the banking industry, as is reflected in the first file in his subseries. Both Howard and his sister were members of The National Huguenot Society, and papers about this organization are found in both of their subseries. Also, being descended from veterans of the American Revolution and the Civil War, Sarah Elizabeth Jetton was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Membership certificates for some of these family members are in this collection. For the most-part this collection contains the papers of William Howard Jetton and his sister, Sarah Elizabeth Jetton, and it is the volume of these papers that gives this collection its name. In addition to their papers, there are also a few items from their parents and grandmothers. Because this collection contains papers from three generations, the first series, entitled Personal Papers, is arranged by generation, beginning with Annie Biddle Cobb Howard and Mary Ann Potts Jetton. Annie Biddle Cobb married O’Kelley W. Howard (generation 1) and had at least one daughter—Sarah Grimes Howard, who married William Alexander Jetton (Generation 2). They had two children—William Howard Jetton and Sarah Elizabeth Jetton (Generation 3). William and his wife Nancy had no children, and Elizabeth never married, so it is with them that documentation of this family ends. Mary Ann Potts (also from Generation 1) married John Lewis Jetton and had several children including a son they named William Alexander, who married Sarah Grimes Howard (Generation 2).

Abstract
Contains a small collection of papers generated primarily by William Howard Jetton and his sister, Sarah Elizabeth Jetton, from 1908 to 2007.
Arrangement
The papers of William Howard and Sarah Elizabeth Jetton are more voluminous than those of their ancestors, and are arranged chronologically in this collection. The papers of their elders are described briefly in paragraph form. Series II consists of a single item—a program for the tenth annual celebration honoring those who have made financial contributions to the Jetton Deferred Giving Society (dated September 11, 2007). Series III contains Jetton family genealogical notes. A few papers that could not be adequately identified or linked to the Jetton family are located in Series IV – Miscellaneous. The thirty-nine photographs that came with the collection constitute Series V and are listed separately. Series VI consists of three membership certificates to the DAR and the UDC.
