Biographical / Historical

Willis Irwin Henderson Jr. was born on March 17, 1909 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Willis Irwin Henderson Sr. and Ora Norment Thomas. He received his B.S. degree in Commerce at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a few years later took a job at Home Realty and Management Company in Charlotte, where he served as President from 1940 to 1976. Throughout the 1940s, Henderson served as President of the Charlotte Board of Realtors, the Charlotte Homebuilders Association and was Secretary-Treasurer of the North Carolina Association of Realtors. He was also past Chairman of the District Board of Review for the Mecklenburg Council of the Boy Scouts of America, served on the Board of Advisors for Lees McRae College and was a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Alexander Childrens Center. Henderson served for 10 years on the Board of Governors of the Charlotte Country Club and was an avid golfer who played in six USGA Senior Amateur Championships. He died at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte on December 16, 2003.
