Biographical / Historical
Elam Pringle Cochran was born on 15 Jan 1819 in Mecklenburg Co, North Carolina. He died on 9 Nov 1898 in Mecklenburg Co, North Carolina. Mary Greenleaf McGinnis was born on 25 Feb 1821 in Mecklenburg Co, North Carolina. She died on 8 Jul 1895 in Mecklenburg Co, North Carolina. She married Elam P Cochran on 29 Aug 1842 in Mecklenburg Co, North Carolina. Their daughter, Isabella or Isabel (Mary Isabel Cochran Utley), was Maude Estelle Utley McLaughlin's mother. Elam Cochran owned the farmland that became the site for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Note: McLaughlin uses the spelling, "Cochrane" in her essay, however, cemetery records, etc. use the spelling, "Cochran."
