Biographical / Historical
Martha Dorn Worrell was born in 1891 in the community of Dornville in McCormick county, South Carolina. She met her husband, Edward Worrell, at an Atlanta business college and they married and moved to Buffalo, New York, where they lived for 20 years. They moved to Charlotte in 1946 after the end of World War II where the couple remained for the rest of their lives. Martha taught piano and music theory and studied in Leipzig, Germany and England. She was a former member of the Charlotte Music Club and helped found the Junior Music Club, she was also a charter member of Myers Park Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Martha died on January 22, 1990 in Charlotte, North Carolina at 98 years of age.
