Biographical / Historical

The Charlotte Women's Political Caucus was founded in 1971 by Liz Hair, a former Chair of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. The purposes of the caucus are as follows: to secure political power for women in local positions, to identify and encourage women who support the objectives of the CWPC to run for office, to secure equal opportunities for participation by women in policy-making positions, to seek enactment and enforcement of legislation prohibiting discrimination and to formulate consensus positions on current issues that affect women and to exert political influence in support of these positions. The Charlotte Women's Political Caucus remains an important organization in Charlotte politics to this day.
