Mary Boyer collection of historical postcards and papers
Scope and Contents
Copies of items placed in a cornerstone at First Ward School in Charlotte on March 13, 1900 and miscellaneous items relating to textiles, gold mining, and politics in North Carolina, including a letter of U.S. Senate candidate Cameron Morrison. There is an extensive collection of postcards of twentieth century Charlotte, N.C., slides and two scrapbooks. Boyer also did extensive research on people, places and buildings important to Charlotte-Mecklenburg history and those materials are included.

Biographical Note
Mary Manning Boyer was born on December 14, 1934 in Williamston, North Carolina to Francis Marion and Lillian Sample Manning. She moved to Charlotte to attend Queens College and met her husband, Miles Boyer, while attending Myers Park Presbyterian Church. Mary loved to research the history of Charlotte and Mecklenburg county and served on the boards of numerous local history organizations, including the Charlotte History Roundtable and the Hezekiah Alexander Foundation. On her mother's side, Mary was a descendant of Hezekiah Alexander and the William Sample family of Mecklenburg county. Along with her husband, Mary played a large role in the restoration of Latta Place. She also collected a wide variety of postcards related to Charlotte and Mecklenburg county and coauthored the book Remembering Charlotte: Postcards from a New South City, 1905-1950. Mary passed away in Charlotte on December 10, 2022.

Abstract
Some of the material in this collection consists primarily of copies of items placed in a cornerstone at First Ward School in Charlotte on March 13, 1900. Miscellaneous items relating to textiles, gold mining, and politics in North Carolina, including a letter of U.S. Senate candidate Cameron Morrison are also included. There are post cards of Charlotte and NC, slides, and scrapbooks. Also included are research notes for various historic sites and on people, places and buildings important to Charlotte-Mecklenburg history.
