Biographical / Historical
The UNC Charlotte Rotaract Club began in 1968 as an organization sponsored by the Charlotte North Rotary Club. It is a leadership and community service organization that seeks to help young men and women become leaders in their communities. Additionally, many clubs take part in international service projects. Since the UNC Charlotte Rotaract Club became the first Rotaract Club to receive its charter from Rotary International, the organization has exploded in growth. There are now over 9,030 clubs in 177 countries throughout the world. The name "Rotaract" originally came from a combination of "Rotary" and "Interact," a high school program started in 1962. The name stands for "Rotary in Action."
