Biographical Note

Gillett was a pioneer woman advertizing executive who moved to Charlotte in 1930. Her firm, Ayer and Gillett, was once the largest advertising agency in North Carolina. Her first novel was Shadows Slant (1937). Bugles at the Border won North Carolina's highest award for juvenile fiction, the Juvenile Literature Award (presented annually by the North Carolina branch of the American Association of University Women), in 1969.
