Biographical Note

Richard "Dick" Akin Davis (1936-2017) graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1958. He earned a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1974. It was there that he met and married his wife, Boyd. From 1962-1974, while working on his doctorate, Davis taught a variety of courses at Winthrop, Sacred Heart, Queens, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He worked for the bulk of his career in Charlotte in a variety of municipal offices, including: Mecklenburg Area Mental Health and Allied Services and the Mecklenburg County Managers Office, and the Parks and Recreation Department. He was always looking after the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
