Biographical / Historical

The Myers Park Homeowners Association was formed in the 1970s in opposition to the Charlotte City Council's attempt to rezone property in the neighborhood from single-family development, which prompted fear of increased density and the loss of the character and original vision of the neighborhood among some residents. The newly formed association was successful in convincing the City Council to reverse their decision and rezone the area back to single-family. After this victory, the committee continued to meet to discuss issues facing the neighborhood and officially incorporated in 1984. The association's mission is to preserve the original, historic layout of Myers Park and thereby preserve the value of its homes. In 1986, the association funded the publication of the book, Legacy: The Myers Park Story by Mary Kratt and Tom Hanchett.
