Historical Note

The images in this collection document the 1974 Charlotte 500, which was held on November 10, 1974, at the Metrolina Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. This race comprised two separate racing events, a NASCAR Modified race and a NASCAR Late Model Sportsman race. Harry Gant, driving a Ford Pinto, won the first race, while Jack Ingram finished first in the Late Model Sportsman event in a 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle, beating Sonny Hutchins, Bill Dennis, Darrell Waltrip, and Tiny Lund (among others), all of whom had top ten finishes.
